⚡ Completed refill requests are reviewed during business hours. Review times vary. Some requests may require additional information, video evaluation, records, testing, or in-person follow-up and may take longer. Prescriptions are issued only when medically appropriate and are not guaranteed.
Patients with an established inhaler regimen may be evaluated for continuation when symptoms are stable and telehealth is clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are never guaranteed and are issued only when medically appropriate after a clinical evaluation.
$39 applies to patients paying directly and not using insurance for the visit. Eligible BCBSTX PPO plans may be billed through Family Medicine and Research Center, PA when applicable. Coverage and patient responsibility depend on the individual plan.
Medications this guide covers
Examples include albuterol, selected established controller inhalers. This list is not a promise that any particular medication will be refilled.
What your clinician may review
- which inhaler you use and how often
- recent wheezing, nighttime symptoms, or exercise limitation
- how frequently you need a rescue inhaler
- recent urgent care, emergency visits, or steroid treatment
- allergies, smoking or vaping history when relevant
When telehealth may be appropriate
Telehealth is most useful when the medication is already established, your condition is stable, the clinician can verify enough relevant history, and any needed measurements, laboratory results, or prior records are available.
Your clinician may still require video, laboratory testing, records, an in-person examination, or follow-up with your regular clinician.
When a refill-only evaluation is not enough
Severe shortness of breath, inability to speak full sentences, blue lips, chest retractions, or poor response to rescue medication is an emergency—call 911.
Controlled substances, opioids, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants, and testosterone/hormone initiation are not offered through Americare's routine refill pathway. Established GLP-1/GIP maintenance therapy may be evaluated separately when clinically appropriate.
How an online refill evaluation works
1. Start
Pay $39 or choose the BCBSTX PPO pathway, then complete the secure intake. No appointment is needed to start; same-day clinician review may be available.
2. Prepare
Have your medication bottle or exact name and dose, pharmacy, allergies, and relevant recent readings or labs ready.
3. Clinical evaluation
A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your medication, condition, safety factors, and records when needed.
4. Pharmacy
If a refill is medically appropriate, the prescription is sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose. Americare does not sell or dispense medication.
Frequently asked questions
Can this medication be refilled online?
Possibly. The clinician must determine that telehealth provides enough information to prescribe safely and lawfully. Some patients need recent labs, vital signs, records, video, or an in-person visit.
Is a prescription guaranteed?
No. The fee is for the medical evaluation, not for a prescription. A prescription is issued only when medically appropriate.
Which pharmacy can I use?
You choose your pharmacy. If a prescription is appropriate, Americare can generally transmit it electronically to that pharmacy.
What if my symptoms are worsening?
A refill-only visit may not be appropriate. The clinician may direct you to urgent, emergency, or in-person care depending on your symptoms.
Need an inhaler refill online?
Selected established asthma inhalers may be appropriate for telehealth refill evaluation. New or worsening shortness of breath, severe wheezing, or other urgent respiratory symptoms require a different level of care.

How to get an inhaler refill online in Texas
For an established inhaler prescription, first confirm whether your pharmacy has refills remaining. If not, an eligible Texas adult may request a telehealth refill evaluation. Worsening breathing, severe shortness of breath, or inadequate relief from a rescue inhaler needs urgent medical assessment, not a routine refill.
