About this medication
Ozempic is an FDA-approved semaglutide injection used in adults with type 2 diabetes and to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease. Coverage for weight-loss use is often limited because that is not Ozempic’s labeled weight-management indication.
Insurance and coverage
If you have BCBSTX PPO coverage, diabetes-related coverage may depend on your plan and clinical criteria. Weight-loss use may have different or more limited coverage.

Can this medication be refilled through telehealth?
Ozempic is semaglutide injection and is used for FDA-approved diabetes and related indications. Refill evaluation depends on your established indication, current dose, monitoring, and safety history.
What information may be needed?
- Current product, dose, and dosing schedule
- Date of last dose and any recent interruption
- Current weight and recent weight trend
- Original indication and prior prescriber information
- Recent A1C or glucose data when relevant
- Side effects, other medications, and relevant medical history
- Photo of the current prescription box, pen, bottle, or pharmacy label when available
This is a maintenance-refill pathway, not automatic continuation
To continue therapy, you'll need to show you're already taking this medication, such as a pharmacy label, prior prescription, or records from your prescriber. New starts, restarts after a long gap, or dose increases require a broader evaluation and may not be completed through this refill pathway.
When might GLP-1 continuation not be appropriate through a routine refill visit?
Examples include severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting or dehydration, suspected pancreatitis, significant gallbladder symptoms, pregnancy, severe medication reactions, major recent dose changes, or other unstable symptoms. Emergency symptoms require urgent or emergency care.
Insurance and pharmacy availability
The $39 fee is for the clinical evaluation. It does not include medication cost, guarantee insurance authorization, or guarantee that a specific pharmacy has the medication in stock.
Compounded products
Americare evaluates FDA-approved GLP-1 and GIP products only. We do not prescribe compounded semaglutide, compounded tirzepatide, or other compounded GLP-1 products.
